Taligen’s proprietary C3d targeting technology is designed to provide precise local regulation of undesirable complement activity without hindering the appropriate functioning of the entire complement system, potentially allowing application to a broad range of immune and inflammatory diseases. When the complement system is activated, C3 molecules naturally coat sites within the body, initiating the complement systems’ downstream inflammatory and immune responses. A fragment of C3 designated C3d is generated and remains physically attached to the site of inflammation.
Using a specific chemical binding entity within the complement cascade known as complement receptor 2 (CR2), which naturally and specifically binds to cells which are coated with C3d, Taligen has demonstrated the effective targeted delivery of complement inhibitors to numerous types of inflammatory cells. Taligen accomplishes this by fusing its proprietary complement inhibitors to CR2, creating a multi purpose drug with inflammatory tissue targeting properties and the ability to regulate inflammation directly at the tissue.
